What are tuberous or constricted breasts?

“Tubular breasts” is the name of a condition caused by breast tissue not proliferating properly during puberty. The condition is also called tuberous breasts or breast hypoplasia. It has several characteristics:
  • Reduced area of the breast on the chest wall
  • Reduced horizontal/ vertical development of the breast
  • Protrusion of the breast through the nipple, causing a conical appearance
  • Enlargement of the nipple
  • Increased space between the breasts

What causes constricted breasts?

It is not clear what exactly causes this condition. IT usually becomes apparent during puberty when the breasts don’t develop properly. In almost all cases, the ring of tissue that connects the areola to the rest of the breast isn’t shaped the way it needs to be. This leads to a “droopy” appearance.

Is the tuberous breast condition dangerous?

This condition usually doesn’t have any symptoms as such. It is mainly diagnosed by how the breasts look. They can however cause issues with breastfeeding and producing milk. While there is no direct threat to your health, many women seek correction for aesthetic reasons.

What is the treatment for tuberous or constricted breasts in Bangalore?

There is no medical treatment for tuberous breasts. They require surgical correction. Surgery consists of releasing the constricting tissue in the breast and expanding them, and then augmenting the breast with either fat grafting or implants. To learn more about fat grafting, click here.To learn more about breast implants, click here. However, as this surgery isn’t the same as typical cosmetic breast surgery, it is important to find a surgeon familiar with this condition.Breast AugmentationImage- Tuberous breast treatment with breast implants.

What is the recovery after tuberous breast surgery like?

  • The surgery usually takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete. You’re likely to feel tired and sore for a few days following your surgery, but you’ll be up and around in 24 to 48 hours.
  • There are restrictions on heavy lifting and exercise for the first two weeks, and certain exercises should be limited to about six weeks.
  • Within a few days, the gauze dressings will be removed and you will be placed into a surgical bra. You should wear it as directed.
  • The swelling in your breasts may take a few weeks to dissipate and, during this time, your breasts will become more natural in appearance and feel.
